Mirror Image?Preston GerryAward: Top 100
School: gray new gloucester high school When you look in a mirror, it shows you a flipped image, right? Well not really. The laws of reflection say that when light hits a surface it bounces back exactly that same. So why do we see a 'mirror image'? It's about perception. When you turn to look at a mirror, you are effectively flipping yourself to face the mirror. A better way to visualize this is shown in my photo. Both the texts are readable despite one being in the mirror because I have not flipped that text. If I were to show it to the mirror, I would be flipping it, not the mirror. |
