Bittersweet Haze

This photo depicts Cavetown's set from the Bittersweet Daze show in Central Park,  New York. A cloud of fog arises behind him,  lit up by neon stage lights.  Light rays from the lights,  called incident rays,  hit the surface of the fog and reflect off in light rays called reflected rays. These reflected rays then enter our eyes,  being the reason we can see the fog. When an incident ray hits the surface of an object,  a line perpendicular to the surface called a normal line can be drawn at the point of contact. According to the law of reflection,  this line sits directly in the middle of the incident ray and its reflected ray.  Because fog is an uneven surface,  light beams (bundles of light rays travelling parallel to each other) hitting the surface don't reflect off in a perfectly parallel bundle of reflected rays,  each ray reflects in a different direction. When this occurs,  it is called a diffusion reaction,  and it is the reason the fog does not reflect an image of Cavetown. When light passes through something,  not only does reflection occur,  but part of the light is absorbed by particles,  causing light to not travel through the object,  hence why the fog has some opacity. However,  since fog is a gas,  the particles are further apart from each other,  therefore,  the light travels through the spaces between particles,  creating the slight transparency in fog.
