Newton's Faceception

This photo represents an entire genre dedicated to such a technique used in photography and cinematography: kaleidoscopic photography,  a harmonious fusion of science and art. A kaleidoscope is an optical instrument which consists of several mirrors (3 or more) that are aligned so that the reflections they produce form infinitely repeating patterns. In this case,  I used three plane mirrors and aligned them to make a prism of plane mirrors (with apex angles of 60 degrees which usually creates hexagonal patterns). As light reflects off the object at hand,  it undergoes multiple reflections inside the mirror contraption before reaching our eyes,  always obeying the laws of geometric optics. The image formed by one reflection is the object for another mirror,  and that image is the object for another mirror,  and so on. In this particular picture,  the DIY kaleidoscope was aligned in such a way that Isaac Newton's face produced petal-like patterns that repeated infinitely; similarly,  any normal kaleidoscope can be aligned (or misaligned) to make beautiful,  intricate patterns,  some of which one might even notice in movies!
