The Peak of Camelback
The peak of Camelback Mountain, located in Scottsdale, Arizona. Although the mountain is so steep, fellow hikers and I were able to reach the summit thanks to normal force. The contact between my shoes and the jagged mountain terrain created enough friction to prevent slipping, allowing me to reach the 2, 704 foot peak. Where I then witnessed incredible 360 degree views of the Phoenix Mountain Reserve.
After having reached the peak of Camelback, and then returning to high school physics, I caught myself looking over at the Gravitational Potential energy equations in my classroom. Specifically, I looked over to "Eg=mgh", and quickly realized that reaching the summit of the mountain was truly a once in a lifetime event. Reaching the summit was the highest elevation that I had ever experienced, and it is therefore the greatest gravitational potential energy that I have ever experienced as well. So, besides the great views and legitimate workout that went along with the hike, there's also a physics anomaly associated with my experience.
