He seems a bit ... dense

This picture includes three layers of liquids. The first layer is corn syrup,  then water,  then corn oil. They create layers due to density. More dense things sink,  while less dense things float. This creates layers,  since corn oil has a density 1.33 g/ml,  water has a density of 1 g/ml and corn oil has a density of 0.917 g/ml. The face was created by floating objects on the different layers. The lid that made up the mouth was more dense than the water but less dense than the corn syrup. The clear quartz nose was the densest,  because when it was by itself it sank in both water and corn syrup,  but the googly eyes that it was combined with were less dense than the water. This led to the googly eyes floating right at the top of the water layer and the clear quartz weighing it down to be right about the middle of the water layer. Their average combined density was just less than the water but more than the corn oil. Finally,  the cowboy hat was the least dense out of all the objects,  being even less dense than the oil,  causing it to float.
