Following DenialLei TomatsuAward: Top 100
School: the brentwood school My photo is made implements color, using light sticks under a long exposure camera setting. Using the long exposure, I am able to manipulate and paint the background of the photo with a lightstick. When I came across the colors red, white, and blue, I immediately thought of the flashing police lights. I wanted to create a photo with the idea of the police. Using a 30-second exposure, I waved the light wand in the backseat of the car, creating a scene almost like the driver got caught. The emotions when getting caught are expressed in the photo, and also shares a nerve-wrecking vibe to the viewer. I named this photograph "Following Denial" because when getting caught by police, many enter a state of emotion filled with guilt and nervousness, leading to a person to try to deny what has happened. This happens as soon as you see the lights flash at you. The lights flash, there is guilt or nervousness, then denial follows. Therefore, I named this image that brings out the described mood as so. |
