School: trinity preparatory school Ripples in physics refer to the wave propagation, ranging from tangible surface waves in fluid dynamics to theoretical fluctuations in quantum fields and literal gravitational waves. These Ripples are known as a mechanical wave; mechanical waves are disturbances that transfer energy through a medium (water). These ripples also result in the amplitude decreasing as the energy of the waves moves over a larger area as they move away from the source. These waves are in motion when shot, but because of a relatively fast shutter speed, they appear still and not moving. The way I got the ripple effect was after I dropped the rock in the water, energy transferred outward while water molecules merely oscillated up and down. Ripple waves transfer energy but don't move matter. A floating object moves up and down but does not move with the wave, demonstrating it is a transverse wave mechanism. |
