Rainbow in the Branches

"On an ordinary noon,  as sunlight drifted across the windowsill,  I observed a concave glass cup and recognized it may act as a natural dispersive element. Placed carefully in the path of midday white light,  the originally uniform beam underwent a striking dispersion through the cup's curved surface and refraction.

Because different wavelengths of light have different refractive indices,  the white light separated into a continuous spectrum of red through violet. This spectrum spread across a plain white wall as a vivid,  flowing band of rainbow color,  recreating Newton's classic dispersion experiment in an everyday setting and turning abstract optical principles into visual poetry.

Dry branches lay across the light path,  becoming the focal subject. Some colored light came through the gaps and made soft shapes on the wall. Other light shone directly on the branches,  giving them warmth and energy as they died. The light and shadow changed the shapes of their outlines,  as if they were quietly interacting with the laws of physics.

I changed the angle of the cup while shooting to make the light spread out better,  and I changed the light in the room to make the contrast better. The last picture shows a time when science and nature came together. It shows how beautiful it can be when light spreads out and forms images."
